Bed & Breakfast Regulation Changes

Several B&B owners are soliciting the city to change regulations that currently govern these businesses. Below are my thoughts and some of the comments I have gathered from citizens.

A Separate School System for Williamsburg?

Joe,
has there been any more talk amongst your planning commission folks and/or neighbors regarding the separation of the city-county schools?  It is my view that this is the time to make the break.  In addition to my concerns as a parent and taxpayer, I am none too pleased seeing children bused long distances to remote county schools.  Many of these folks don’t have cars and these distances have serious repercussions on their daily lives. 

What are your thoughts on the school issue?

Wood Siding: Preserve or Remove?

Owner-Occupied Deed Restrictions

An idea is being explored among some City residents to encourage homeowners to place a restriction in their deed which requires the house to be owner-occupied. The concept is still in its infancy. Below is an excerpt from the minutes of the November 6, 2004 meeting of the Neighborhood Council of Williamsburg in which David Kranbuehl, perhaps the originator of the idea, discusses why it is important to the local economy to increase owner-occupancy.

Our Fragile Neighborhoods

This comment was sent to me by a Williamsburg resident. He argues that the older neighborhoods are at a critical turning point. We need to think through which way we want them to go and how we will steer them.
